Mortehoe

Mortehoe is located close to Morte Point and about a mile away from Woolacombe, which is probably the most famous town and beach in Devon. Mortehoe is a beautiful Devon village, and has been here since the Doomsday book was written. There are 2 roads into Mortehoe, one a very steep and narrow road from Woolacombe and the other an equally narrow road from the east.

After the railway came to Ilfracombe (in 1874) Mortehoe has become an increasingly popular holiday destination. When the railway line was closed in 1970, the car and coach had long since become transport favourites to this part of the Westcountry.

The Mortehoe Heritage Centre

The Mortehoe Heritage Centre is in the Cart Linhay building and it serves as a local Tourist Information Centre. It contains a museum which has sections dealing with the local farming communities, the railway and the history of ship wrecks in the area,

The North Devon Coast

North Devon is famous for its varied coastline and incredible scenery. If you start on the coast at Minehead and go west just think of the towns and villages you come across: Lynmouth & Lynton, Combe Martin, Watermouth, Ilfracombe, Lee, Mortehoe , Woolacombe , Croyde Bay, Puttsborough, Appledore, Clovelly, and if you fancy staying inland there are the towns like Barnstaple, Bideford, and Braunton to visit.

Of course north Devon is famous for Exmoor National Park and many a day out can be spent exploring the National Trust locations and towns like Simonsbath, Challacombe and Dulverton.
